I just purchased a new BX2320, with a 60 inch mmm, and I am in the process of looking for a few attachments. A FEL is not justifiable for our property so I am looking at a box scraper and perhaps a 3ph scoop. Is the King Kutter scoop a good investment ($235)? My primary use would be moving top soil and small landscaping projects on about 3 acres.

I bought a KK scoop to use on my Ford 9N and it worked very well especially for skimming top soil. Although it's no match for an FEL for speed for simply moving dirt, it's much easier than loading a wheelbarrow and I moved many cubic yards of dirt with it. You can set the angle so that as it digs into the ground, it puts a great deal of downward force on the rear wheels which gives you extra traction. Most of the time it wouldn't stop digging until the tractor ran out of power (which isn't much on a 9N):-).
The first modification I made was to buy a spring to hold the lock down so the scoop bucket would latch everytime it closes. Without the spring the scoop would slam upright after it emptied and the latch would also bounce open. Then I would have to stop, lower the 3pt and sometimes back up to latch the scoop into the digging position which was a big PIA.

Dave, thanks. I had a 37 9N at one time, great old tractor that just ran and ran. Left it with the place I sold in Montana. If the scoop for the Kubota works well, it will be a good investment, appreciate your comments.

I think that the scoop is one of the most useful implements I have.
Unlike most, I don't have a front-end loader on my compact tractor. It does take a lot of trips, but a scoop will suffice for many uses.
Mine isn't a KK brand-name, but is similar quality and price. The local Southern States had one, so I just bought it there. I've bent it here and there trying to persuade rocks up out of the ground, but can't complain at all. You can weld, can't you?

At least on my TC29, I need front end ballast for just about everything. I bolted a permanent 160 pound weight on; I have a removable 150 pound weight for when I have the backhoe on. And it needs more.
A scoop full of gravel makes the front end light but not unmanageable on level ground without the weights. The first job I ever did with my tractor (day after I bought it) was moving a dump truck load of piled gravel. Didn't have any front weights at that time, and it did fine. This was on level ground, though.

I've never needed front ballast either but I think the 9N is at least a few hundred pounds heavier than the BX. A full scoop will make the front end light but I could still steer it ok.

I have a 30" KK scoop on my BX, but should have gone with the 24". The pins are almost too wide for the 3PH. It will hook up ok, but tighten the stay chains and watch the frame clearance at full lift. I plan on relocating the pins inward and downward for better lift height and less lift arm spread. Front ballast is useful, but not necessary. ....

King Kutter quality is low compared with other brands, but you can't possibly hurt their scoop with a BX. Just not enough tractor mass. I moved 25 cu yds of mulch and 20 tons of 1" gravel with mine. Very economical alternative to a FEL (although limited). ....

Thanks everyone for the input. I purchased a 24 inch scoop, made locally and it works great. I moved 10 yds of top soil in about an hour, for a fellow that cannot justify a fel, this is a good peice of equipment.
